Activities for the Birds!

As the weather warms up, birds fly home for the summer. We can welcome them home with a nice snack.

Your child can enjoy  making a simple spring bird feeder.

Peanut butter / Sunflower seed butter, pinecone feeders Finding pinecones is an exciting and fun outside adventure. If the pinecones are closed up, you can either keep them inside the house for several days or bake them in an oven at 300°F for 10 minutes to get them to open up.

•Strings of cereal

•Strings of cranberries

•Popcorn strings

•Whole apples or apple slices

•Peanut butter toast with raisins. You can cut the toasts into shapes with cookie cutters before hanging them.

It will be a fun experience for your child to observe the birds when they come for a meal. They can use binoculars to get a better view of the birds and guess what species they are. With your help your child can take photos of the birds and look them up. Have them draw pictures of the birds in a journal. This could be the start of a hobby that they might enjoy for many years.

It is important to encourage children to explore natural resources in order to promote mindfulness, curiosity, and discovery through sensory experiences.

Children can get inspired by collecting items from nature.
