Happy Mother's Day!

Celebrate mom by making her a special handmade gift or singing her a song.

Handprint Flower

A handprint flower is a super simple project. You are going to love doing this project together with your kids to display around your home.

What you need:

•Thick white paper/canvas

•Paints

•Paintbrush

Steps:

1) Have your child paint the background of the white paper/canvas (or leave it as is).

2) Help your child create grass, leaves, and flower stems using different shades of green paint.

3) Paint the palm of your child’s hand with a thick layer of yellow paint.

4) Press your child’s hand onto the paper, so their fingers are pointing outwards. Continue this process as many times as needed around the paper until you are back to where you started (creating sunflower petals). Ensure you leave a small space in the center.

5) Have your child use a paintbrush or their fingers to create brown dots in the center of their sunflower.

6) Let your child sign and date their artwork.

Straw Blown Stems

This art project is great and educational. Since your kids will be using straws, feel free to spend some time teaching them the importance of germs and cleanliness (see books for references below). With just a few steps, your children can make spectacular flowers.

What you need:

•Thick white paper

•Green liquid watercolor/food coloring

•Paint

•Straw

•Dropper

•Empty soda bottle

Steps:

1) Stem:

a. Have your children squirt a couple of drops of green food coloring (mixed with water) or liquid watercolor onto the bottom of the white paper.

b. Help your child blow into a straw to force the green liquid to move towards the top of the paper. This should begin to look like a green line.

2) Flower:

a. Have your child dip the bottom of a soda bottle into the paint color of their choice. Make sure you cover as much of the soda bottle bottom area as possible, so the details show up on paper.

b. Let your child press the painted bottle onto the paper to create flower petal prints.

c. Dip your child’s thumb into yellow paint and press onto the flower’s center.

3) Let your child sign and date their artwork.

Poems for Mom

"Dear Mom

I am like a flower

That’s raised with love by you

You help me grow up big and strong

Mom, thanks for all you do!

Happy Mother’s Day!"

"Dear Mom

I made you these flowers

So you’ll always know

I’ll love you forever

No matter how much I grow! Happy Mother’s Day!"

A Song for Mom

M.O.M.M.Y. (to the tune of Old MacDonald)

"Mommy, Mommy, I love you.

M. O. M. M. Y.

Mommy, Mommy, I love You.

M. O. M. M. Y.

With a kiss, kiss here.

And a kiss, kiss there.

Here a kiss

There a kiss.

Everywhere a kiss, kiss.

Mommy, Mommy, I love you.

M. O. M. M. Y."
