Ice Cream in a Bag!

You will need:

-Whole milk, heavy cream or half and half (1 cup)

-Sugar (2 tablespoons)

-Vanilla (1 teaspoon)

-Ice

-Kosher Salt or Ice Cream Salt (6 tablespoons)

-Plastic freezer bag

-Plastic Container

-Spoons and bowls

-Sprinkles if you wish

Instructions:

1. First, fill your Tupperware with ice.

2. Second, have your child sprinkle 6 tablespoons of Kosher salt or ice cream salt on the ice (when you add salt to ice, you lower the freezing point). Scooping and pouring is a great skill to practice!

3. Pour the milk into the plastic freezer bag and add the sugar.

4. Then, add vanilla. Make sure you get all of the air out of the plastic bag and seal tightly.

5. Put the bag with all of the ingredients into the container (top with more ice if needed) and shake shake shake! You can also slide it back and forth on the table if that is easier.

6. Shake for about 10-15 minutes. As you shake, check the consistency of the ice cream. When it feels thick and creamy, it is ready to serve!

Fruit juice or yogurt popsicle's are also a fun and healthy treat! We use paper cups or ice cube trays for these in the classroom.
